I thought i would start by looking at one of my favorite bands......
Silversun pickups, an american indie 4 piece from LA. I first came across silversun pickups in 2006 and was impressed by what i heard. They have a chilled out but powerful style, which seems somewhat individual. I saw them at Reading Festival 2007 and they were my favourite band of the weekend. However, i noticed that the amount of people watching was very small.....which seemed a shame for such a good band. They are inspired by such bands as my bloody valentine and smashing pumpkins, however, their style does not seem to imitate them and is somewhat distinctive.
Since then, people may recognise them from Rockband and Guitar Hero with the song lazy eye, from the album Carnavas. Released in 2006, the album consists of 11 very catchy songs all with a different sound. All of the songs are nearing 5 minutes long, which has brought criticism from people saying after 5 minutes they get boring. I however disagree, most of the songs have a long guitar solo and i do not think the songs get boring at all, which is quite an achievement in my opinion. Standout tracks from this album are Future Foe Scenarios and Well thought out twinkles, however, having said that, there is not a song on the album that i think is bad.
2009 sees the release of the new album Swoon! This consists of 10 tracks again of around 5 minutes long, which are not at all lazy or repetitive. On the first listen, Panic Switch definately stands out. At almost 6 minutes long, the song has a very distinctive sound that is memorable after one listen and although it is so long, it does not seem to be as it changes so much throughout. The album has such a wide variety of different music, with Substitution having a very different style to panic switch. It has a much more up beat background music, but still holds the same style. Overall, again a very good album and worth a listen!!
Hope i didnt bore you!
